Dear all,

About 5 years ago, I attended a university in China for one year, but I eventually drop out from there to go to school in U.S. As that school in China doesn't have anything to do with U.S, there was no unit transferred to my 4-year university.

In my AMCAS application, I do want to list that school, as this is part of my history. However,it would be the pain in the ass if I have to get the transcript from that school. I went through enough of bureaucracy there to get things done, and I am sure that school will have me to fly all the way back for my transcript. And, they will have me to write tons of letters and run around collecting stamps from different departments for weeks before giving me my transcript, in Chinese.

So my question is, how likely that the AMCAS would deny my transcript exception request? I really worry about that because it will be a true nightmare if I got denied...

Thank so much.

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure you have to. I would get to work on it now. Because on AMCAS it stipulates ANY college ever attended.

I did a full-blown degree program abroad, and AMCAS didn't have an issue granting the exception to me. As long as the courses weren't science-related (so no biochem or physics or anything), it shouldn't be a huge issue.

On the other hand, if you're applying for the Fall 2013 entering class, it may be worth it to either 1) start the transcript request process now, or 2, and more practical) call AMCAS and ask them directly. Their customer service is pretty good.
