So for my EC's, i don't know if i could put this down, i figured i would ask you guys. For a few classes i have taken i would form study sessions for a large group of people from my class including online group pages to keep everyone updated with material. In the study sessions i would be the one usually taking the lead and tutoring people. We would cover the lessons we went over class that day and i would be the appointed tutor, since i was able to grasp the material and convey it in a easy to understand form. In my O.chem class, my prof would jokingly call me her TA because i would help students out by staying 2-3 hours after class.

My question is, would this count as leadership? Could i say that i was tutoring students? I never help any officer positions throughout undergrad for clubs.

Definitely use it and ask to use the prof. as a reference for the activity to better it's legitimacy.

Agree with above, clear it with your prof first then you are good to go.

just because it isn't official doesn't mean it can't count. I agree with above.

Thanks for the replies. Will definitely ask the prof just in case, shouldn't hurt.

This is a difficult scenario. I will have to say no on this one (I know I am the minority here), since you are a part of the class and are being graded along with the people you are tutoring. If this were a situation where you were not a formal TA, but volunteering your time to tutor (not being graded with the class), then I would say yes.

However, try and see what your professor thinks.

I TA'd for an organic chem lab section which was on thursdays (but my section was on tuesdays) just for the record. i have always included that in my TA experience.

Hmm, yeah since you were also in the class I am not sure what to recommend.

I have been a formal tutor for over 4 years, but I was actually employed by my school. I definitely listed that experience and talked about how I tutored individuals as well as led study groups of 30-50 students. Granted, I had passed the classes already. I also TAed too, so I included that separately...

I think I will have to agree with Island. In the case that your teacher wants to agree to it, then maybe you can list it. It will most likely come up in your interview though, so you'll probably have to explain it more.

Anyway, that's my two cents

Thanks for the different perspectives, guys. I will see if it will be okay with my professor then go from there.
