Hi,

I am taking the North East Regional Board (NERB) traditional exam in about a week. I passed WREB a while ago. For WREB, a candidate who fails the complete exam or any section of the exam three times are required to obtain additional remediation/course hours in the areas of failure prior to a fourth attempt.

How many times can a candidate take NERB before he is required to obtain additional remediation? On the NERB manual, it just says that if a candidate fails any one or more of the five clinical examinations on three successive attempts must begin the entire examination process again and retake all five clinical examinations. It says nothing about additional remediation required.

Thanks for answering.

I do not believe there is remediation for the NERB. Basically the NERB is divided into five sections: Prosth, Endo, Written, Perio, and Restorative.

If you fail the endo you retake the endo, and vice versa for the other parts. However, you have a time frame to retake this and this depends on if you are taking it via CIF (curriculum integrated format) which is usually given to fourth year students while they are in school. However, if you are taking the traditional format then the rules may differ since you are taking both the manikin and patient portion on back to back days.

However, I do not think their is remediation through NERB.

Thanks for answering!

I only heard that some states do care about the number of times a candidate has taken NERB and they may restrict a candidate from obtaining a license if he fails too many times. WREB will not allow a candidate to retake on his 4th tries unless he completes a series of remediation requirement. I just want to make sure in case I have to take it for the fourth time, I do not have to go through any remediation course.

It is my first time taking NREB and I regret much for not taking it during my senior year. So it's a traditional format.
