Hello,
I am currently a postdoc with a J-1 Visa and I have not gone through the 2-year waiver process yet.

1) Can I still apply for med school? would there be a problem?

2) If I were to apply for a green card (NIW since I am a Ph.D) may I apply for med school during this process ?

Can you please help?

Thank you

You can apply, but if you apply before you get your green card you will be considered as an international student, which will diminish your chance of getting accepted at a US medical school by a lot. I would wait until you have your green card, but I know it could take a decade... I would talk to an immigration lawyer to see what a reasonable timeline would be.

You have asked several questions regarding visas and residency status. At this point you really need to find a good immigration lawyer and ask all of your questions. It would be foolish for you to depend on the accuracy of information gathered on an Internet forum for something this important. Good luck.

I am in a similar situation as you actually. I am awaiting my green card and it is very difficult because without it my chances of attending medical school are slim to none as you will need that green card to receive financial aid. If I were you, I would wait and talk to an immigration lawyer.
