What is the best thing to do after being waitlisted at your top school? Would it be improving grades, letter of intent, letter of recommendations or more activities? Thanks in advance.

honestly it depends on your school. I know some schools do not like applicants to do anything. Others don't mind if you add letters of intent, more recommendations, more activities, and keeping them updated.

If your school doesn't mind you adding to your file, then do it. Keep them updated on your volunteer activites, write the letter of intent, and such. At this point i wouldn't go too overboard. start with the letter of intent. Then for the moment check in and give an update once a month about. maybe alitttle more frequently. But as it gets closer to school starting, i would probably do it a tad more frequently. Mostly if you have something new to tell them though.

I know for my school, every contact you had goes into your file if you are on the waitlist. I would definitly ask some students who go your first choice school what they recommend.

I would take this approach. First, don't do anything stupid like call them everyday without anything substantial to say. Secondly, I would show them just how bad you really want to get in. So all of your suggestions sound like good ideas to me. Lastly, don't give up. If you were waitlisted, than you will probably get in somewhere with hard work and determination. Good luck! :luck:

TUN Class of 2009!!!

Just FYI, from what I have heard, most, if not all, m.d. schools force applicants holding multiple acceptances to choose just one acceptance in midMay. Some d.o. applicants would prefer to attend an allopathic school and thus more spots open up in m.d schools, followed by spots opening in d.o. schools, the waitlist usually begins to move in midMay.
GOOD LUCK!
