Hey all,
I've a question, I'm currently a medical student but on my rotation now I deal with a lot of facial trauma and eye problems and I've found I know very little about the eye world which I've found out is pretty fascinating.
We send most of our patients to an outside OD clinic that's associated with our hospital so I don't really get to ask any questions to the OD. Here is my question: we have a patient with pretty bad astigmatism and constrictor muscle damage or nerve damage causing anisocoria. The patient is pretty sensitive about it and wants to get color enhancing lenses for both eyes to try to have a set pupil diameter. The problem is the astigmatism, he's tried generic color enhancing contacts and they slide around a lot and just make it worse. I know we can get custom fit lens for some of our trauma patients but they're the kind that are painted over for people who don't have vision in that eye and I've also seen the mapping for custom fit keratoconus lenses. This patient still has decent vision in the eye. So what I'm asking: is there a place that will do scleral mapping (not sure if this is the correct term) for custom fit color enhancement lenses. Apparently the optometry shop we're associated with doesn't do it, and this patient asks about it every time they come in but we have no idea. Thanks for any help!
