I was just wondering how you soon to be MD's think about chiropractic? From what you know, do you think it's a good treatment for NMS pain? Any and all comments are welcome! But i would also like to say that i woudk like educated opinions so please don't just say "all chiros are horrible" are stuff like that because it generalizes an entire profession.

Look forward to seeing what you guys think!

Hey what's up? My dad's a chiro so i have a little bit of a bias. I think it's really great treatment for musculoskeletal disorders and a less invasive means to treat common problems that are not associated with pathogenic diseases or disorders that obviously need medicinal treatment. I love to get adjusted especially if I'm out of whack from playing sports, or slept on my neck funny. I'd rather have my muscles relaxed and my spine put back in place, then pop a pill to relieve my symptoms. My dad does a lot of Trigger Point Release (manually obviously)... man does that feel good 🙂 I truly think there are a lot of great praciticing chiropractors out there who have a lot to offer. Funny you mention it, I screwed my neck up the other day in a soccer game and pinched a nerve in my neck ( I basically can't turn my head to the left or down). My dad is coming up tomorrow to put me back together! I think that because I've seen many outstanding chiropractors at work, I fully believe in their philosophy. I particularly respect the ones who recognize that manipulation is not necessarily going to cure things like cancer or diabetes... catch my drift. I hope that was helpful.

I'd just like to say, consider anything else but premed. Premed just sucks hardcore. It's the worst major ever.
If it gives you any indication, for my creative writing class, we have to write an expose on some facet of our lives. Mine is called "The Emptiest Years of Our Lives: On Getting Into Medical School in the United States". Why? Because if you go premed the college years really will be the emptiest years of your life. You'll only be focused on grades, research, and clinical experience. You'll have NO time to learn or grow as a person.

So, in short, yes, anything but premed is a good and healthy choice. Be it chiropractics or whatever else.

Chiropractors can cure cancer and the cold. Getting an MD is actually my backup plan

You're being mean skoaner!!! Haven't you heard about the loons that think they can cure cancer?

Anyway, good story... my dad spotted an aneurysm on a patient of his that the patient's PCP missed upon Xray!!! Crazy. Anyway, the patient has surgery to repair it but.. wow... that's a huge miss.

Chiros get massive training on radiology though, so maybe that's why

why are you chossing becoming and MD over becoming a DC. Not that there is ANYTHING wrond with that choice. I'm just curious as to why is all. And how does your dad feel about you wanting to me an MD?
Thanks

Hey.. that's a great question. IT all boils down two two things. I want to do surgery and I want to do international medicine. I can't do either one of those as a chiropractor. However, I do intend on building strong relationships with DOs , Chiros, Massage therapists, naturopaths, and acupuncturists 🙂

In my experience I know more people who have been hurt by chiropracters than those who have been helped...

How DOs, MDs, and DCs Compare In Philosophical Backgrounds and Training?:

http://www.osteohome.com/SubPages/compare.html

Manual Medicine Training:

D.O.: Includes all parts of the body: spine, joints, connective tissue (including fascia) from head to toe.

M.D.: No formal training.

D.C.: Mainly spinal manipulation.

Please note that any fully licensed physician (MD or DO) is eligible to take osteopathic courses. A number of MDs have become very proficient at practicing osteopathy, but only after many years of training and hard work.
