Hello,

I am a M3 that just started my ob/gyn rotation, and actually am really enjoying it. Enough to actually pursue it as a career. Before I make any final decisions, there is a topic that has been puzzling me. I read online that malpractice is sky high for ob/gyn, ranging from 17K-290K a year, depending on location.

Now, I also see online that ob/gyn "salaries" are in the low to mid 200K range, depending on experience. Is this salary figure after malpractice has been paid, or could it really be possible that my annual salary could be in the negative and go into bankruptcy. I have heard of some filing for bankruptcy.

I just want this notion of sky high mal practice insurance cleard up and how much I can expect to take home after malpractice is paid for.

Please don't get me wrong, I dont want to make "tons of money", but it is a concern of mine if my net pay is in the negative! Thank you.

First, there is nothing wrong with making tons of money. I wouldn't mind making a lot of money. The numbers you mentioned are generally after malpractice. Just don't go into ob gyn thinking you will be a millionaire
