i'm going to be a pharmacy student this fall at CCP in Downers Grove.

I have a car, but wanted to know how convenient or inconvenient it is to use public transportation to get to MWU campus. I live in Lakeview and wish to continue to reside there while I pursue my studies at CCP. Is it too difficult to use public transportation to commute to and from Chicago to Downers Grove? Are there any students out there that take the el, metra, and/or buses? It seems like nearly all of the students commute via a car or live on campus.

Can you or someone else please elaborate on the routes one must take to get to MWU. I was looking on www.chicagotransit.com , but it doesn't recognize MWU's address in order to plan a trip for me using both trains and buses.

I know that I'd have to take the metra to Downers Grove, but I don't know how to get from the train station to campus. When looking online, I don't see a bus line that takes you directly to MWU. Thanks a lot!!

Maybe someone else can help you but I don't know of anyone who commutes via public transportation to campus. The Metra station drops you off in downtown Downers Grove and the campus is at the northern tip of DG. There may be a bus that would get you "somewhere" near campus but if there is, I've never seen it. Sucks, but that's the way it is. Our class president is petitioning to get some transit from the school to the Metra station. I think if they had it a lot of people would use it.

I really hope there is a way for me to commute via public transportation instead of driving. It'll take well over 2 hours each day to commute. I can use that time to study instead during my commute. When will your class president know the outcome of the petition?

I have lived in Downers nearly all of my life and I went to college in Chicago, so I have used nearly every type of public transportation in the area and there is no good way to get to Midwestern other than driving. The El doesn't get anywhere near Downers; the Metra has stops in downtown Downers and on the eastern edge, but both are at least 3 or 4 miles from campus; to the best of my knowledge, the closest PACE bus stop is Yorktown Mall. I think the easiest way would be to drive, but traffic will probably be bad, especially on the expressways. Sorry there's no convenient way to the school using public transportation.

Oh no! 🙁 I'm so sorry to hear that there isn't more public transportation available. It seems strange that DG hasn't been more accomodating for students and installed a bus line to go directly to MWU.

Downers Grove does have its own busline, so hopefully, the current class president will be able to have a special bus during certain times run from the train station to the school. It might be a tough sell though (more than half the town opposes a creating a public pool), but I think it would be a good idea.

I'm not sure if it's being worked on or not. He mentioned it at the beginning of the year as something to work on but I'm not sure if anything ever came of it. I'm sure it would be a tough sell to the town of DG.

i don't understand why the residents of DG are so appossed to creating a bus line to go to MWU. it seems strange that they aren't more accomodating to students. i now it's asking a lot to create a new bus line though.

i really, really don't want to move. i love living in the city too much to move to DG. I was considering Oak Park, but...Lakeview is so great! I may just suck it up and drive.

I was talking to a student and she gave me the following info.:

after you get off from the metra, you need to take the Pace bus (it might be route number 834) until you hit 31st. Then you have to walk down 31st street to Midwestern

Neither of us said that the residents are opposed to the idea, we simply said it would be a hard sell. Also, the idea may not even be known to village officials, so residents have not even heard of the notion of adding a bus line. The residents of DG are like most individuals in that they do not want to support anything that would raise their taxes, e.g. property taxes. This is why they do not support tax increases to support the high schools or creating a public pool.

If you don't want to move, taking the El, Metra and PACE would probably be the most time efficient, but the walk from 31st and Highland to Midwestern is close to half a mile. Hope this helps.
