When you applied did part of your application process involve a bankground/credit check and what company do you work for?

I understand why they may want to do a check (access to meds and money) but my credit is in the pooper and only fixing to get worse, and I am worried that this will prevent me from getting this much needed pharmacy experience to offset the gpa. :scared:

I have been a tech for around 4 years now and here's my advice. Scope out all the pharmacies near you, determine how far you want to drive and do some research. Look for any ma and pa pharmacy. (I know they are rare but there has to one by you!) Then dress up and just walk in... ask the pharmacist if he needs any help! The pharmacist actually called me, when I was in HS, to see if I would like to help him out! Of course, I said "yes" and he paid me 2x my prior job's salary.. he hired me within minutes! Good luck! Def. look at the family-owned stores.. they are so much cozier than Walgreens, CVS, and etc.

A little info. that'll make you giggle
My boss' father was the SECOND pharmacist hired to work in Mr. Walgreen's second store. However, Johnson (the father), would quit 5 years later because he thought Mr. Walgreen had gone crazy buying so many stores. Johnson and a few other pharmacists were worried their job was in jeopardy and all quit the Walgreen's company. I wonder what Johnson would think today!

I work for CVS and I know they do a background check. I'm not sure about the credit check, but I dont think they do, I dont see why they would though. The pay suks, but as an intern you'll get more.

Rite Aid does a criminal record check and makes you do a drug test, but no credit check AFAIK.

I'm probably no help..

I've worked at an independent pharmacy as a tech for almost 5 years. No credit/drug check required. Just the fact that they knew me and my family have customers for 20 years. When we are hiring, we tend to look at the person overall. Since many of the employees they hire work after school and generally stay there for a few years; there are several important factors.

They must be able to balance school work with work (ie they're a good student), they must be able to be helpful to customers and also they have to *appear* to be fairly quick learners. Those are some of the criteria for the independent I am employeed at. Hope that helps a little 😉

Hey as most ppl might know by now, Im representing the hospital techs!! From the boards, I have heard that getting a job in a hospital is hard but I don't know cause I was lucky coming in from a program. However, I do know that the hospital I work at does background checks but I dont know about credit checks. Unless you're working in a financial setting, I dont see a reason to do a credit check. Good luck in finding a job.

I work at Longs Drug. No background or credit check. I had to do a drug test though.

I am a hospital pharm tech, and all that was required was a drug test and background check.
