So I have been sitting around trying to figure out how to best use my time this summer and while I want to appreciate my time off (I know that I am going to miss it when school starts in the fall!), I also want to do something productive.

When I went to check out UW's program last year, I remember seeing a bunch of sewing machines in their classroom. The lady giving me the tour mentioned that the students use them to in making adaptations to clothing and some other things.

I guess what I'm asking is, is this a basic OT skill that I should spend time learning?? I don't remember seeing sewing machines at other schools but that doesn't mean they weren't there. Is this something that other schools do as well?

I know that this might seem like a silly question but I'm just trying to figure out how to best use this valuable time that I have. I know that I should be re-reading my statistics and A&P books but I would rather find something fun to do!!

Any advice is appreciated! 😀

DO all your pre-req classes foremost...and take up sewing as a hobby try a craft store. It won't hurt to have a side hobby in your free time this summer do you need a class for it not really. You may not get into UW and you might, not all the programs have a lot of sewing. Have Fun!

I've already been accepted into a program, I'm just waiting to start in September. I guess I'm just kind of bored and looking for something to keep myself busy!!

In my program we use sewing machines for things like activity analyses and I suppose if we need to adjust clothing we could use them. At least with my program, there was no need to know how to sew beforehand. If you want to do it just as a hobby, that's great. I don't think it will be particularly beneficial if your program is like mine.
