If you are a GD, I have two questions for you:

1) How much money did your practice or a practice you worked for spend on marketing when the practice first opened?

2) How long did it take for you to have a large enough patient flow where the practice could stop marketing?

Thanks

I spent $250/month on a small niche local newspaper and a one time $600 on Valpak direct mail. You don't stop advertising because new patients are more profitable than old patients. However, the best advertising is your patients' referral; follow by office location exposure such as busy intersection.

Thanks for your reply. Do you do anything particular to encourage referrals?

Treat your patients well, do your work with skill and competence, and don't be afraid to tell them that if they're pleased with their experience as your patient, and they know anyone who needs care or is in the market for a new dentist, you'd love to see them. I'm always surprised by the number of dentists who think that their dignity is somehow undermined by telling patients that persuading a friend or loved one to let me take care of them is the best compliment they could ever pay me. And the best part is, that's the unvarnished truth.
