LOL since the girls got one, why not us....:laugh:

I borrowed my brothers black tie, bought new shoes, new suit from Mens Warehouse. Is black the recommended color for interviews? and what about ties? Solid color or stripes?

One thing that was really annoying me was my tie, I think I had it on too tight, I kept on pulling on it during some presentations. I barely wear ties, probably 2-3 times a year, I thought it looks bad to have it loose so I pulled it on real tight. I guess thats even worse.

Finally How about them LIONS. 😉
 
I was always told by a surgeon that I shadowed to wear a red tie because red is the color of power and confidence.
 
I went with the blue shirt and fuschia (sp?) tie. It is my "power" combination.
 
I don't think that the color is a deal breaker for you. I've always been told to avoid bright and flashy ties/suits. However, I'm thinking about going with a green and white pin striped suit, a cane and a top hat with a gold $, but I like the sock idea too. Really though; look nice, but don't stand out in a crowd of interviewees.
 
yeah the tailor told me red was the powerful tie color, but that blue is the compassionate tie color. so.... I got a new red tie with blue checkers
 
I disagree, it may intimidate your interviewers.

It could intimidate or arouse... I guess it all depends on the gender of the interviewer (and sexual orientation for that matter).

If you feel you are being intimidating, and are seated at a table, worst case scenario- you take the tube socks out and drop em on the floor... at least when you get up and leave you'll make a good, unintimidating last impression.

The Men's Warehouse guys will probably set you with a nice suit / tie / shirt combo for an interview if you ask. After interviewing a few people myself a common small goof that I have seen is wearing white socks with your expensive suit. Also take the exterior label of the suit off. I have seen one candidate who had left their Ralph Lauren Label on the exterior cuff of the suit. It did get a chuckle out of us.

I didn't know medical schools interviewed 5 year olds? As far as that Ralph Lauren guy goes, if you got it, flaunt it. I didn't take the "DIOR HOMME" tag off my suit, just to make sure that the interviewer knew that 1) My suit cost $3000 more than theirs obviously did and 2) I can obviously pay my way through a medical education and if this interview didn't work out, I'm suing Hedi until he gets me into a career in runway modeling
 
Wearing white socks with a suit should be an automatic rejection. No better way to say "I cannot function outside of the labratory" than a fresh bleached pair of white socks with a suit.
 
So I take it my birthday suit won't cut it though it is inspiring ( by inspiring i mean breath taking)

Anyway I have a black suit but I often go sans coat is this not acceptable for an interview?

I am a big guy and have always felt that the dang coat makes me look more like a linebacker than an academic. Any advice? Is black suit okay or to dreary I thought that a blazer and khaki's would do well. I thought I also remember from my military exit classes that they said that black suits can be to intimidating. So if I go with a suit do I go with a blue, brown, purple, or orange ala dion sanders. Well I guess I should quit worrying until I get the interview.
 
I think the safest attire for an interview is a dark suit with either a white or blue shirt (never black), and conservative tie(not too loud) that matches. Now I guess people can wear anything they want and still get in, because the suit is probably the least important factor in admissions.

I think the black suit will work well with a nice blue shirt and matching tie🙂thumbup🙂. That will look real clean, I wouldn't go with a white shirt and powerful tie that will make your suit seem even darker. Definitely don't go Deon Sanders. :laugh:

WTF!!! I couldn't find this thread yesterday I thought it was closed, I'm glad it hasn't 👍.

I saw Boston Legal last night, William Shatner was wearing a red tie, and I agree red does show a sign of power. But also it looked like a real loud appearance, too much attention grabbing. Won't that make you look arrogant and cocky at your interview? I love that show, he fired his assistant because she was FAT.... LOL :laugh:
 
I got my suit from mens warehouse, and i had a blue/dark brown/silver tie with a white shirt...suit was grey with pinstripes...the guy at mens warehouse helped me pick it.

I actually almost chose this brown shirt/brown tie combination he showed me, and im glad i didnt, cuz a guy at my interview was wearing the EXACT same one!!! and he was the same ethnicity as me...damn, i wonder if the ADCOM would think..."all them look alike." :idea:

I have decided to dress like this for my interview tomorrow:

I feel that the cattle prod gives a greater sense of confidence and power than a red tie, and by wrapping my face up, they won't be able to read my facial expressions and see if I'm nervous. I'm pretty sure that this will write my ticket to med school.

The best part is that if you feel that the interview is going poorly you can just 'level the playing field' with your intimidating stick.

When I interviewed last year, I wore a copper colored shirt with a black suit. I ALWAYS wear Jerry Garcia ties. They are pretty funky looking with lots of colors and I have always, even on interviews, got complements on them. I wore a Garcia tie for my white coat ceremony and while shaking hands after getting my coat, a prof complemented me on the tie. They are very professional ties, but very fun too. So if you get a chance, check them out.

I try to model all of my suits after the ones that Shannon Sharpe wears. For some reason I can never pull it off. I do like the tie-knot wider than my head look though.

Anyway, I think I'm going with a navy blue pinstripe suit, but I'll leave the fedora in the car.

u feel like a rockstar when u wear burnt orange...thats what my ochem prof said when i began interviewing, and he s totally right...glad to be in the presence of a fellow longhorn

Don't let the Men's warehouse guys pick out your suits unless they are young. They tried to give my husband pleated pants saying that they were in style! Pleated pants make you look fat unless you are super skinny. And please make sure that your jacket fits your shoulders, nothing looks better than a well fit jacket! (go to a tailor, it's cheap!) Oh yeah, solid color ties! Blue or Red is good, but don't go for wishy washy stripes or patterns, if you need something like that get a subtle stripe on your suit or shirt.
 
I went to my interview in a black suit that I got from SYMS (prices were excellent and suit was tailored at the store). Extremely helpful bunch that wasn't on commission. I had previously gone to Men's Wearhouse and they were complete *******s.

Nice dress pants, black sports jacket (regular suits don't go well with my broad shoulders...so I'm told), white shirt and silver tie that had a certain shine to it.
