I know the interview is blind, so they don’t have your AMCAS.
But, do you know if our interviewers read the 2 essays we were supposed to fill out on interests and future plans in medicine? Or do they just look at the 4 activities you list? Right now, I have no overlap in content between my essays and my 4 activities. But, if the interview is totally blind and they don’t even see my essays, then I’m going to be repetitive about what's most important. Hope this makes sense to people who’re at this stage and have seen the online pre-interview forms. For those of you who have not, don’t worry—I’m NOT talking about the secondary. There were NO essays for the secondary.

thanks

anyone? current roch students?

Damn, you just about gave me a heart attack until I read the end of your post... whew!

I don't have any input since I have the same question. Also, can we do those essays now? It says to complete one week prior to interview.

WHOA WHOA WHOA

they have a pre-interview form.

That's just messed up.
I was thinking this is a great school with no secondary essay, but then they pull this out.

This is just
I'll still do it if they hopefully give me a call, but come on

I am slightly peeved that Rochester waited until we received an interview to throw a few more essays at us... c'mon now.. can't that happen earlier? I had anticipated being done with "secondary-like requests" sooner! 👎

i was kinda irked too, but then the essays took less time than i thought. you should be pro at answering those question by now, right? 🙂

anyone able to answer my original question?

Hey, I interviewed at Rochester last week. Both of my interviewers had the two mini-essays in front of them while we were interviewing, but only one interviewer referenced them (only in passing, and only one of the questions). My other interviewer didn't mention them at all. The interviews were pretty relaxed and straightforward, so just enjoy yourselves.

I interviewed on the same day with greendot. Both my interviewers had read the essays in advance and each asked me questions based on them. Both were very nice, just wanted to get to know me better. I do think at least one of my interviewers may have been assigned to me based on something I said in the future plans essay, but it could have been a coincidence.

great! thanks, jrdnben and greendot. Rochester will be my first interview, so I'm pretty excited. Did you guys stay or get to meet w/ a lot of the students there?

I was staying with a fourth year's wife (he is a friend of mine, but he was out of town during my visit). A lot of students dropped by the admissions office to say hi and wish us well; I think they were all first and second year. Everyone seemed very friendly. I do wish we'd had an opportunity to meet some students from the clinical years.

9/19. I'm flying in on the 17th though, and staying w/ one of the student hosts. Maybe I'll catch a concert at Eastman.

Should be fun...

good luck! 🙂

Do you think we'll know as early as October 15 whether or not we've been accepted? I sure hope so...it'd be nice not to have to worry about filling in more secondaries, and going to interviews at schools I don't care that much for anyway.

Hey funshine, I'll be in Rochester the same time as you: flying in on Saturday, interviewing on Monday. It'd be awesome if we knew our status by October 15. But I was looking at their website and it doesn't say how early they send out admissions decisions. Oh well, they'll probably tell us on the day of our interview. Good luck!

Edit: Oops, jrdnbenjamin already addressed the issue. Nevermind!
