I get done with second year in the middle of May and need to be done with step 1 by end of June 2014 giving me 6 weeks. My parents will buy me the 2013 DIT as an early Christmas present in December. So I was thinking about doing DIT for a first pass of first aid in the 3 weeks of winter break. I can't read first aid by myself it kills me, I like how DIT keeps you engaged so I really do need something to motivate me.

Then I figured I'd buy DIT 2014 about 1 month away from my step 1 (yes I do have some extra cash) to get through first aid one more time and then take it. Does this winter break and summer (2 DIT) passes sound like a reasonable plan. A lot of students have told me that 2 passed with DIT was amazing. I'm scared I might be doing my first DIT pass too early. The thing is my spring break is only 1 week and winter is all I have really.

Please don't comment saying oh they just read first aid and you can do it in your own. To me personally that's not true. Whenever I open first aid I almost pass out it seems very dry and I've seen my friends do it with excellent results.

Thanks for your time in advance!

Not real familiar with how that is setup, but could you go through once at Christmas break then use something like Firecracker to maintain what you learned while you continue class? Just thinking it may be cheaper.

Honestly, I wouldn't even try doing DIT over xmas break. I don't know what your school curriculum is like, but at my school, we still had 6 organ systems left to cover during the 2nd semester of 2nd year, including the 3 most tested (cardio, pulmonary, renal), so I feel like it would be frustrating doing DIT without learning all of that first. If you really feel you need 2 passes with DIT, go for it, but I only did 1 and I did fine.

Can you guys explain why you think it's good? I've heard so many mixed reviews about it that I'm thrown for a loop.

DIT is good for students who are average and/or lack motivation and need a structured program for them to hit all the big points so they can get an above average score. the reason a lot of people on here hate on DIT is because they're super motivated, well above average, and already at a ~235-240 level and want to get to 260+ so DIT is basically a waste of time for them.

I used DIT and I was not impressed. If I could do it again I might consider getting the kaplan program instead. If you do use DIT, use it sparingly, maybe only as a first pass. Remember that Q banks should be your main source. Take NBME assessments regularly to assess your progress.
