I applied to many schools...and While i have gotten interviews from some..my appl. has just been completed at others.....now there are some schools that are still reviewing my application.....and i had called them and they said that they are still in the process of review....does this mean...on dec.1 i will get rejected from them.....or not? Or is it true that if they were going to reject me then they would have done it now before dec.1????

PLEASE SHINE SOME LIGHT!!!! 😕 😕

PS I applied to 23 schools and got rejected from three so far...

Hey, 23 schools!! wow...

I want to do that also, but how much did that cost you ? At around $60/per school...I guess if you only want to do this cra p once its an awesome plan...just costly I guess.

ahmed, what were your stats like that you applied to so many schools? and good luck to you

look at it this way: if you applied to 23 schools and you've been rejected from 3, that leaves 20. You're still in the game at 20 schools. Take a deep breath, relax and quit whining about your chances.

If schools are still reviewing your application, it doesn't mean that they will wait until Dec 1st to surprise you with a rejection. Most people confuse Dec 1st with some other issues, the date is only reserved for acceptance letters to commence. Rejection letter are sent out anytime schools wish to do so, and that could be many months before Dec 1st.

What are your stats to all these 23 schools?

All are complete....except at two schools...I hope this helps 👍

Don't worry just yet. As Mo007 stated, December 1st is the earliest date dental schools can notify you of an acceptance offer - by no means is the door is closed thereafter. Some schools, such as Case, jump on their admissions process in July, while others, such as USC, are really only getting started with theirs. That combined with the fact that applications are really up this year and some schools are swamped right now only means that delays should be expected. Furthermore, several of the schools I interviewed at told the applicants not to freak out if they don't hear anything come December 1st as they only leak out a few acceptance letters at a time and they don't fill their class until late spring. Hang in there! 👍

Ahmed,
I am curious about your dental stats, 23 schools seems a bit excessive to me, and I'm an OCD ridden gosh darn freak when it comes to perfection...
I was wondering, to anyone else out there, if when you apply to dental school, do they see the other schools you've applied to also? Also, if they asked at an interview as to how many other schools you applied to, would it be unethical to lie to them and tell them just two or three, as opposed to 23, because I'm sure this wouldn't look the best to discuss in front of an admissions committee. Just wondering, thanks!

when the schools get your application, after reviewing them, they either reject you right away, invite you for an inteview, or keep you in a seperate pile to continue to campare you to other applicants. however, once they already review your application and did not grant you an interview, your chances of getting an interview later on is pretty slim. they will only go back to that pile if they really need to. and with the many applications they get, as you can see, its slim. it works just the same after you interviewed. they either accept you, reject you, put you on a waitlist, or put you in another pile to be review by the adcomm later.

The other school DO NOT get to see who you applied to when they get your application. Although the AADSAS will show on YOUR copy who you applied to, but the schools will only see themselves. Be prepared however for them to ask you in an interview situation how many you applied to and also be aware that the deans of admission do talk to each other, especially if one is your state school and the other is one far away.

I had the dean of admissions at the school of the state I live in say to me at my interview that the dean of admissions in PA brought me up to him. So they do talk to each other, FYI.

I have always thought honesty is the best policy. So when I asked is that the only school I applied to I say no, and here is why: I made that mistake last year (only applying to one school-waitlisted, etc.) and that this year I applied to XX schools because I really want to be a dentist. This usually leads the to follow up question: Why our school? Have a good answer here because as much as they are interviewing you, you also should be wanting to know "why" do you want to go there.

Howdy Dark,
I was wondering, you were waitlisted your first round of applying to dental school? What happened and what were your stats? I'm doing everything I can to get in, 3.8/3.9GPA, research, volunteering, biochem major, and I really wanna be a dentist! If you could give me some incite into your history applying, it be much appreciated!

Hello Dexadental:

I am too lazy to find where I originally posted that on SDN. So I will do a "short" (haha) recap for you! 🙂

My stats: GPA 3.9-4.0 Science and AA. DAT: Highest 21 RC, lowest QR 17. Most scores were 19, 20, 20 or so. So degree wise I have 2 Associates (Science and Liberal Arts) and BS. Again please don't quote me because I posted the actualls on the stat page but again "too lazy" today to pull up that thread.

I only applied to one school last year, and was waitlisted after getting "the first" interview day. I was never chosen off it obviously, because here I am again for round 2. I didn't find out till this month why I wasn't chosen last year. Something to do with the interviewer not liking me and therefore did support me to other commitee members. The dean of Admissions and not to mention my advisor were at a loss to tell me why I wasn't accepted and could offer NO suggestions in improving my application. This made me really very sad about the whole thing. I personally had NO IDEA I had made such a bad impression. I think the fact that he knew that (because I told him) that they were the only school I applied to that they probably didn't take me serious in my application. So this year, I applied to 13 schools and have gotten 7 plus invites so far. (not including Creighton because they don't interview, but I got secondaries from 12 schools.) I will go anywhere I am accepted I really enjoy dentistry I want to be one with all my heart.

My history is this: 99 graduated top of my class with a BS in Dental hygiene, I have been working as one since. I was a hairdresser before that. I was a single parent from the time I was 17 till like I was 22. I worked and went to school while I was a single parent to get the pre-reqs for the dental hygiene program. I worked for 3/4 of my dental pre-reqs as well but the last year I have been able to focus just on school and not work. (I feel very lucky, since I have worked most of my life-while going to school-while being a single mom). I am married now and have 2 kids.

As far as "excessive" time to volunteer: I have volunteered at my kids school and some college and ADHA functions. But in no way do I have many volunteer hours..... where would I have put them?

The only thing I can offer you of value is this:
Your stats aren't going to get you accepted. They will get you an interview (in most cases) and how the interview goes will determine whether or not they choose you. While some schools have formulas to help them decide, other rely heavily on their observations of you while you were there. I think it also depends on the quality of people that interview with you around the same time makes some impact as well. I don't believe there is one right answer here, and by no means do I mean to tell you this is the only way people get in. Some people get in because their parents are alumni and dentists of that college (although unfair, it happens). So I wish you the best of luck, because believe me, luck is involved some how. :luck:
