Hello future classmates!

I am just curious what, if any, degree you all have... I was told at my interview that UIC was trying to move toward only accepting applicants with a bachelors (or higher) degree.

Also... feel free to post any other cool info about your self!

I will graduate in May with my BA in Biology and Biochemistry from Augustana College.

All new GPPA students (starting this school year) have to get a bachelors degree before they can go into pharmacy school.

I also heard that all students who have not been in college before next fall will need to get a bachelors degree in order for the school to look at their application (so if you started this year your won't need a bachelors degree...but if you entered college next year then you will)...I'm not sure how true that is. Maybe genesis or another UIC student could clarify that?

There is a strong movement in the admissions committee to require a bachelors; however, they have not reached critical mass. In the class of 2009, 40% of the students do not have a bachelors. With the B.S. requirement for GPPA, that would effect 10% of the class. In the prePharm curriculum, there was a strong push this year to add microbiology, and thus changing Phar 333, but it failed. They might try again next year. I haven't heard that UIC will require bachelors for all students. In truth, you don't need it. The program is set up to not assume a bachelors, but only assume prereq classes.
There won't be a new catalog until fall 2007. Catalog years are important at UIC.
On a side note, several people in my class already have Masters degrees.

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaa, so UIC and other pharmacy schools are going to start making it mandatory to have a bachelors degree before you apply? My top 3 schools to apply to are both Midwestern campuses and UIC :scared: . Ill be apply to pharmacy school in fall 2007 and hope to get in for the fall 2008 school year, so will this rule effect me and be implemented by then? Thanks

Like I said before. What I heard was rumors. That is why I asked Genesis or another UIC student to clarify. I do know for a fact though that all new GPPA students must get their bachelors before starting pharm school. So it would only seem reasonable to me that next year (or within a couple years) they would start requiring bachelors...otherwise why else would they require GPPA students to receive one? I have also heard that UIC was trying to require a bachelors degrees within 4 years from the undergrad health career advisor last year.

Well if thats true and they implement it by the time I apply, Ima have to just scratch UIC off the list. Midwestern(s) it is haha.

But from what I heard...which I said in the first post but I think I said it pretty confusingly (is that even a word?). It is only for new students that begin college next year and beyond. So you should be ok. But like I said...it is all rumors...so who knows.

My fault then I should have read it closer. If thats true then wow thats a relief. Thanks for the input you and the others are really helpful. 🙂

Look at what I said, there is a movement within UIC COP to require the bachelors, but so far, nothing has happened. All of the changes regarding the 2007 catalog which I know of have nothing to do with prePharmacy requirements just the PharmD curriculum. A respectable number of people on the EPC wanted to add microbiology, but in the end, it was voted down. On a side note, I would recommend all potential UIC COP students take that course because they might change their minds. There will be two year GPPA students matriculating until Fall 2007.
In the end, I don't think they are going to require the bachelors for another 5 to 10 years. There is still a respectable amount of no bachelors students. What you will have to hope is that the current two year students do well and post average grades. One of the true reasons COP decided to require that all GPPA students get a bachelors is because they weren't doing as well. I do not have a bachelors, and I am doing fine, but I cannot say that for all of my fellow non-bachelors classmates.

hi
did people sign up for 1 year housing or academic yr housing? rate-wise, it comes out to be the same rent per month. but I think i saw that it cost more if you decided later that you want to add summer housing to the academic yr, is that true??

No offense...but I am going to take the pre-health advisors word over yours about when they might start requiring a bachelors degree.

The 5-10 year mark does come from a professor on the EPC (Education Planning Committee) on when she believes a bachelors might be required by the committee.
