I'm planning to take the DAT in May...& then I'm applying to schools around early June (except one, which I won't be able to send until after July 1). Is this a good idea?? What should I be doing now besides studying for DAT?

Change your avatar.

Just joking, maybe.

Ask for letters of evaluation and start writing your personal statement.

Get your application stuff ready. The biggest delay is going to be your application, transcripts and Recommendations. Send them in around May/June.
The DAT scores are sent directly to the schools so they go faster. I'd recommend taking the DAT by August 1st so that your application will be complete by around mid August. The schools will begin looking at applications then.

Haha...what's wrong with my avatar? I like it. 🙂 But thanks, I will do that.

you can also try to learn as much as you can about the application process

also look at what schools you want to apply to. but depending on what you get on the DAT it will probably effect the schools you choose.

It's simple. Sucky scores jeopardize your chances at any school.

^ or if she got really good scores then she wont have to apply to 20-30 schools

knowing your scores before you apply can help you pick schools.

if you dont know your scores it is better to apply to 20-30 schools because you dont know how well you gonna do?

Now I'm totally confused. I wanted to take the DAT in May so just in case (hopefully I won't) I want to retake it I could do so around August. Also, I will be done with my last pre-req (organic chemistry II) in May so I wanted to take it while stuff is still somewhat fresh on my mind. But...if I were to take the DAT in, say, June or July and apply to schools before I take the DAT, would that make any difference? See my GPA's are pretty good (3.9 cum and 4.0 science) but I must admit that I'm a little scared about the DAT, so I don't want possible bad DAT scores messing up my chances if the schools get those scores before my application. What should I do??

It really doesn't matter that much. If you have sucky scores then she'd get 20-30 rejections. She would have to get lucky.

take it when you are ready.

i would suggest only taking it once.

I agree that you want to take the DAT only once. That is the most important, but taking it early also is very very important.

Send all of your transcripts and letters of rec. ASAP (May 16 AADSAS is s...l...o...w). Also send the application processing fees before they are requested, call them and ask if that is ok and they will tell you.

Then when you take the DAT the school will just be waiting for your scores and your application can be processed fast. Also call the schools repeatedly until they tell you your application is complete (not all schools are great with AADSAS updates).

By doing this I was accepted to 5/7 schools I interviewed at and my scores and GPA aren't spectacular. Check it out on predents.com

The sooner your application is complete the more interviews you will get and the better your chances are. 😀

Forgot... with a GPA like yours you can afford to take the DAT in June.

You can turn in your application without having to take the DAT. I would for sure turn it in in MAY! Increases your chances. I agree with NewMexDent, change the avatar (I was thinking something classy, maybe a little sassy and for sure something that exudes intelligence.)😉
