I have graduated and am taking two gap years, currently in gap year 1. I am doing an AmeriCorps project where I will be working in the ED at a Trauma 1 Hospital doing HIV/HCV testing and having discussions with patients on how to get linked to social services and ID care, and discussing harm reduction if they continue to use drugs(project is focused on individuals with substance abuse disorder)

1. May be a stupid question, but this is clinical experience right? Haven't seen anything on forums about AmeriCorps as clinical experience.

2. On the application would this be clinical volunteering?

Thanks!

1: Yes. You are directly interacting with patients in a medical setting.

2: Community Service/Volunteer - Medical/Clinical

AmeriCorps is a wonderful experience and, as a bonus, looks fantastic on medical school applications. Several schools, including Duke and Michigan, specifically ask if you have done AmeriCorps.

I hope you really enjoy your service!
