I took the DAT this summer and am actually kinda concerned about my score now the more I hear people saying my biology score is raising flags and overall some areas are raising flags as well.

My Scores are
PAT:18
QR:18
Reading comp:22
Bio:16
Gen chem:21
O chem:21
Total Science:19
Academic Avg: 20

I'm a junior, and have a 3.5 at Penn State majoring in psychlogy/minoring in biology. Do I have a good chance of getting in to schools like Pitt, Maryland, Nova, etc or some of the more prestigious schools like Penn,Harvard, etc? I dunno i keep hearing different things from my advisor saying I could maybe not get in, while my dentist and others in the health field think i'm in good shape. I know there isn't a right or wrong answer but I'm starting to get concerned by the lack of agreement between everyone. Any ideas?

i don't think you have a good chance at any prestigious schools unless you have some other stats and dental experience that blows everyone out of the water. As for NOVA and Maryland you have a good chance. My scores are fairly similar except my bio was a lot higher and my chems a little lower and I have received interviews at both of those schools this year. I suggest you look into what you would have to take to get a double major in biology....if it's only another couple classes, try and take them in summer school and a few next year. This will be a HUGE boost if you double major. However, you don't necessarily need to double major.

I was accepted into Nova with an 18 AA on the DAT. My GPA is the same as yours. I didn't study much for the DAT and really didn't have the time to put into studying for a re-take. If you have the time I guess you could retake it but in my opinion you will be fine with a 20AA. Did you study really hard for your scores? If so, just relax, you could always take it again and do worse. :scared:

don't worry about taking it again your scores are above the nation average, try to get some community service along with observing hours, and a recommendation from a dentist, along with being involved in clubs and you should be set with pitt or maryland, usually nova looks for naatives of florida or some sort of minority status

I think you have a chance at most dental schools, except the prestigious ones such as Penn and Harvard unless you have some really awesome extracurricular activities and research experience.

Pitt, Maryland, and Nova; yes. Penn, Harvard; no. You have good, solid scores except in one section. If the Biology 16 does come up in interviews, try to explain it by the randomness of the questions in that section. Most likely it will not be an issue because of your other scores overall. I know plenty of people that have gotten into state schools with similar or inferior stats. I would advise only retaking the test if you feel you performed drastically below your capabilites and you can definitely improve everywhere. There is no need to rock a boat in calm waters.

I would say you are cutting it close to pit, maryland, and nova. You have an okay shot, but not for sure. Both your gpa and DAT are average. I would apply to some easier schools to get into (nyu, temple, etc). If you don't want to go there, I recommend retaking.
