Great forum folks. My friend just showed it to me and I wished I knew about it sooner.

I am coming down to the end of my interviews and can't wait until it is over 😀 . I still have have to make my southeast swing at Duke and Emory. I am probably going to keep my Duke interview but I wanted to ask about Emory. Has anyone been there and can they tell me what it is like? I have found a number of programs I would be very happy at in the northeast and my finances are dwindling and would like to avoid paying for another flight. However, if someone tells me it is a must see place, I will keep it. It wouldn't be so bad to get a little better weather for a couple extra days of decent weather anyway. Thanks.

I liked emory a lot -Im gunna rank it high. As far as being must see - not so sure cause all of the programs are pretty much alike and Emory is not significantly different from the rest. It does have a lot of diff hospitals you rotate thru (I think this is a plus in most ways, but also kinda annoying too), they put on a great interview experience - can tell they want to impress the candidates - unlike some places that people are complaining about - but all together I think the real question is if you really honestly would be willing to live in Atlanta. If you like atlanta, or think you'll like atlanta, then you should go, otherwise I'd skip and save the cash. I had to make the same decsion about california programs - I really wanted to see them, but i dont think i can realistically afford to live there given my family situation, so I decided not to waste the money on an interview that i am very unlikely to go for residency. hope that helps.

Cost of living in Atlanta (or most places in the Southeast) are significantly lower than ANYWHERE in the Northeast.

What you say definitely makes sense and helps put things in perspective. Even though there are great programs on the west coast, I did not apply because of similar reasons to the ones you stated. Thanks 🙂
