I just splurged 900 and bought the course. The question is, what now? I signed the agreement? Do i have to wait for the materials to come via UPS? Or can i accesss the materials such as the questions database etc now?

Thanks!

If I remeber correctly, once you buy the course, you have to register with Kaplan on there online site. You sign up for a name and password. Once you done that, if the Kaplan administration are on there toes, they would have put you in the database, and then when you access kaptest, you should see course syllabus, click that icon, then you should see an outline of all the things your going to be doing for the class. The question bank is usually under the SUGGESTED ASSIGNMENTS heading, once you click on that there should be subject test in a pdf format, quite handy and easy if you can print out the pdfs. plus you don't have to use the kaplan library for test questions, becuase you have all the questions they'll give on online. The kaplan libary is good for the videos and extra test they have on there libary computer not many. But the majority of the questions are online. Also forgot to mention that they should be sending you a review book, a workbook for the class and a CD with a full length DAT and a couple of workshops.

hope this helps

hockey, did you study these subject tests from kaplan for your DAT study? if so, how close did they resemble the real thing?

The subject test were a little more advanced in question that the real thing. I think Kaplan designs the subject test to give you a overall idea of the subject with many details .

Questions on the real test, were general and more straight forward, like most people they seem to be real basic.

I am contemplating purchasing the Kaplan premium online course. Can you (or anyone else) offer any thoughts on the quality of this study tool? Can anyone compare or contrast it to the in-person course? I have not found any information about this product other than on the kaplan website and wanted to get a few opinions before I spent all my money on it.

Thanks

I would recommend 👍 👍 the in person course for a few reasons:

1) It's more interesting to learn from a live teacher than spending 30+ hrs in front of your computer watching streaming video. The in-person class is more interactive since the teacher often asks the class questions.

2) You can meet people in your classes with whom you can study with.

3) The teacher will answer questions you have about your homework and practice tests.

4) I found it very helpful studying for the DAT at the Kaplan centers (it really allowed me to keep my focus on the DAT).

5) The in-person course allows you to watch classes on video at the Kaplan center and/or the streaming video (anyway).

6) The in-person course allows you to visit any center in the nation, assuming the teacher in some sessions sucked. Generally, different teachers teach different sections of the course. So, if one teacher did a mediocre job covering let's say O-chem 1, then you could go to another center and take it again. I had a positive experience with the in-person course where the only sessions that I did not enjoy was Bio 1 and 2, but that's because Bio is a tough class to teach b/c it's simply just throwing out a bunch of facts at you. I watched some of the video for Bio 1 and I found it almost as boring.

7) Taking the computer tests at the Kaplan center creates a similar experience to taking the actual DAT versus sitting at home taking the tests on your computer.

Overall, if you can afford the extra 100-200 dollars and you have a center within reasonable driving distance, then I'd for sure recommend the live course.
