I noticed that on MSAR, the class size does not include MD/PhD's. For example, a school would have 50 men/50 women, but then if you go down, it would show MD 100 and MD/PhD 10. But it looks like the applicants and interview data include MD/PhD's, how about GPA and MCAT, excluding MD/PhD's? Or the MD 100 includes MD/PhD?? confused..

I think the number includes everyone. I also think the stats for MDPHD are slightly higher just bc there are fewer slots and so it’s sliightly more competitive that way.
MD/PhD is not just slightly higher, they are usually an entire SD above. I at least know this for my state school (UW) the average MCAT is a 512, but the average MD/PhD MCAT is like a 519...

Well, I might be generalizing only for T20s where..I realize the median stat of those schools is already 520+ so the md phd is still noticeably, but only marginally higher.

I'm trying to ask this in the nicest possible way, but if you've taken the MCAT, what exactly was your CARS score?

Yah, it might be different between T20 schools and the general school numbers...

@Lucca our resident M1 MD/PhD moderator may be able to shed some light/provide clarification?

in other words, those stats include those MD/PhD, also those interview numbers also too. I know it's a lot more competitive to get a seat among MD/PhD's, so I wonder if somewhere they break down interviews into pure MD's and MD/PhD's

some schools just have a lot more MD/PhD's than others. That can explain the higher stats too. Yale has 22.

Just take a break from pre-medding

Or maybe learn how to take a joke?

Jokes are all fine and dandy until they are insulting. “What was your CARS score?” Is an obvious joke, but it is also an obvious mockery via questioning the intelligence of a user. I am all for humor (as I have overzealously displayed elsewhere) but insults, particularly insults for the sake of laughter, particularly insults for the sake of laughter in the absence of any advice, really are not needed and are frankly uncalled for.

To address your question, my best guess is that it is going to be school dependent basically based on what they tell MSAR to put there. For instance, Mayo only states a class of 48-52, but that doesn’t include their 4-6 MD/PhDs who are also not included in the MCAT/GPA statistics (learned this at interview) but Pittsburgh all of that is included. So, basically it is just because different schools tell MSAR different things because this entire process is wrought with dysfunction and inconsistency

Well said. Joke or not, intent is the key.

I understand that you're hurting, but people come to SDN for realistic advice, not hugs and kisses. Frankly, you asked a question that was based upon upon your not being diligent. The process is stressing you out and it's time to take a break from this. SDN radiates stress and angst, so no need to imbibe further, for your own well being.

On a separate note, the table is confusing. For example, if you look at Mt Sinai, there are over 35 people as early assurance, are they part of the first year class??

Not stressed out, but more curious about it.

SUCH a strong urge to make a meme rn, yet at the expense of one user. I'll withhold it 😆
