While most orthopaedic trained surgeons who do additional training in the field of PRS, do hand fellowships, they are eligible for a full plastics residency after completing their ortho residencies....http://www.sfmatch.org/residency/plastic_surgery/getting_started/requirements.htm So, while it may be more common to pursue hand after ortho and this may be what you're referring to, you can also do general plastics.
