Question on Post Bac Programs

Hello

I am very new to this site and the health care profession.

I graduated two and a half years ago from a four year public university and majored in accounting. My undergrad GPA was 3.49. I have worked full time since then.

I have never taken any of the prereq science courses (only geology).
I have very limited experience in the healthcare industry (just alittle volunteering at my local hospital) but I am interested in starting to enter the field of medicine. With my credentials, do I have a shot at a pre bac program in the NYC area/east coast starting in the fall term? If so, which programs do you think will accept me?

No, not this fall -- it's too late. If you apply in October for the next class year, and get some hands-on volunteer experience in the meantime, you'll have a shot (especially if your SATs are impressive).

Is it really too late? The programs I am applying to have deadlines of mid June and July 1.

Oh alright. I don't know those programs. Most formal programs begin in the summer with Gen Chem and it's too late to apply to those, for all intents and purposes. If you have something else in mind, then good luck -- your GPA isn't terrible and some postbacs don't put as much emphasis on volunteer/clinical experience, so you have a shot.

Hi,

I would not take any of the "application deadlines" too seriously. Many schools seem to be pretty flexible on the number of postbacs admitted. Remember, it's not a degree program, so admission is not as competitive as many expect. I would call the offices of any programs that you are interested in and see if they would consider your application. They are more interested to see if you are serious about med school and would likely get in. If you are, I think many postbac doors should be open for you.
