Hi everyone!

I recently interviewed at EVMS and am convinced this is the perfect school for me! I LOVED it! I found out a few days ago, however, that I'm on the middle 1/3 of the waitlist--is this good/bad/a little of both? I've heard that most people from the top 1/3 are offered an acceptance, but what about the middle 1/3? Any idea on the odds of obtaining an acceptance from the middle 1/3? Thanks in advance! I look forward to hearing from you!

Yay EVMS! Have you tried calling just to check on your status? You don't want to be annoying, obviously, but it's always good to show genuine interest.

I just interviewed there on March 2. The committee letter was dated March 11 (didn't receive till this weekend though), and I called on Monday to find out where I was on the waitlist. I plan on writing a letter of intent, and sending update letters and an additional letter of rec, so that my file will be flagged. I looooooooooooooooooooved EVMS and would be so happy to go there! Any idea on the chances of being pulled off the list from the middle third?

Middle third may be tough to achieve an acceptance letter. However, EVMS does have a medical masters program that historically admits a large percentage to the following year's medical school class. Not sure if you had acceptance letters elsewhere and were holding out for EVMS, but this would be an option if it is getting close to matriculation time and you have yet to hear about your status.

PS: I have heard that some students find out about their admission status as late as one week before classes start! So never give up hope but always have a back-up plan.

I was in the middle-third last year and received an invite a few days before orientation....how? I showed lots of interest in the school - my advice is to call Dr. McCombs, discuss your application, and ask what you can do to improve your chances of admittance this year. Good luck!

FYI: Dr. McCombs is on vacation all this week.

Oh, well that's why he hasn't answered my email. 🙄 Silly me

I'll ask here then:
I had a great interview and my stats are likely borderline, but they placed me at the top 1/3, then I slipped to the very top of the middle 1/3. After sending in a new LOR and a strongly worded Intent, and letters to my interviewers, I emailed Dr. McCombs for a short/quick meeting this Friday or next Monday as I'll be flying in for the Weekend event and have extra time. Am I wasting my time hoping for a short meeting with him?

p.s. Does he prefer Dr. McCombs or Dean McCombs? I just used Dr., but I don't want to offend 😉

Dr. Mcombs likes to go by Dr. Mcombs 😉...dean and you would not offend him either way. Show up for your interview wearing plaid pants. Then he would love you for life. JK. Seriously, you are not wasting your time one bit. Hope it goes well.
