Hey everyone...I was wondering if anyone knew anything about paying your deposit on May 15 to one school...do your applications automatically get withdrawn from all other schools if you've applied to both MD and DO schools? I'm on a priority waitlist at one and have been accepted at the other. I'd like to hold my spot, but I don't want to pull my name of the waitlist either because I'm not sure which school I definitely want to go to yet...one is DO, one is MD...does anyone know anything about this?

MD and DO schools use different databases to maintain their application records. there will be plenty of people on student doctor who tell you they often communicate throught a variety of mysterious methods, but if you think about it realistically, they have better things to do..

to answer your question, there is no rule that says that you need to withdraw from one of the schools, but some people will tell you that it's bad form.

My understanding is that if you have multiple acceptances at MD schools you have until May 15th to make a decision. DO schools (I think) dont have this rule and you can technically pay multiple acceptance fees...but thats a lot of money.....(its also really not very nice to do)

As far as your question...your fine with paying a DO fee and waitlist at MD school.after may 15th.or vice versa...as a matter of fact you can be on as many waitlist as you want....I'm sure it happens all the time where someone is all set to go to a DO school and they get a call from another waitlisted DO school or waitlisted MD school, even after orientation, and they jump ships...So it happens and schools live with it....

Again this is only my understanding...if anyone knows otherwise please inform.....

BTW...I'm accepted at one DO school (payed fee)...waitlisted another DO which I would love to attend and also an MD school.....People in similiar situation, how do you all deal with housing issues...I dont want to sign a lease but at the same time I dont want to be homeless, the frustrating this is that I may not know until August...

What is the proper way to notify a school that you will not be attending? Is email enough or would it be better to write a letter?

i just called nsu this afternoon and they told me to email a certain person. i figured the best thing to do is let them know as soon as you know your final decision (phonecall) and then you want something written to go out. ask them what they want you to do.

It would be a good idea to call or email. Technically if you still have to pay a deposit and you dont you will loose your spot...

Although it wouldnt have been so bad to just ignore their acceptance payment deadlines back in December (I did) but at this point (with people on the waitlist) it would be the proper thing to let the schools know personally that your not comming....
