Question RE: Pre-req Class

I am currently an undergrad at Pitt but I took a pre-req class, Bio II, at my local CC due to time/money. Pitt said I should go ahead and take it at Pitt, even though I am not a Bio major. Do you think it is acceptable that all my other pre-reqs are completed at Pitt except Bio II? I think DO schools won't mind considering it is only one class and as long as my MCAT is high enough.

What are your thoughts?

I think it is perfectly acceptable to take one or two pre-medical courses at a community college. I think that many schools just discourage taking the bulk of your required courses this way. If you go to a reputable four-year institution, they just want to be certain that you didn't take the easier road. I am not meaning to imply that all cc courses are easy, as I am currently taking physics at a cc and it is challenging.

This should not be a problem when applying to either MD or DO programs. Best of luck to you.

I got my ME degree from my four year college here, and then when I moved back home, I took my two Orgo and Biology classes at the CC in the town where I live since it was cheaper and I could live at home. And I still got in.

I have my Bio I, Gen Chem I, and Physics I classes from a 4 yr college. Does that mean i could take the remaining courses at my CC and still be okay. Or should I call med schools just to double check.

I don't think it would be a good idea to take all of your general education courses at your regular university and then specifically take the remaining pre-med courses at a cc. To me this suggests that you are definitely taking the easier route to completing them...however, if you are no longer at your regular university and have only a handful of courses left to take and you complete them at a cc due to location/money issues, then this would be looked at differently. If feasible, you should take the classes at Pitt.
