can someone explain this system to me?

I am under the impression that say if UCSF only takes 100 students, and if 100 students who qualifies apply early and get accepted say in July, does that mean UCSF would stop accepting students afterwards?

I know its probably better to submit early, but if the above case is true, then ugh lol

well, no one is officially accepted until Dec. 1, so the class cannot be "officially" full by july. the class COULD be full, but they might interview another batch of 100 not-so-qualified individuals later and bump some of the qualified people earlier off the list to make room for some not-so-qualified individuals that fit their program better. the people who got bumped off will never know because they were never officially accepted.

many schools DO fill up the class very early and stop looking at subsequent applications. apply to michigan after midseptember and you won't hear from them until the rejection letter the next March. They dont even send you an app complete... no communication whatsoever until the rejection. Call them and they will tell you they havn't gotten to your app yet, and they are currently only at K or T or M or something, (they give you a random different letter each time you call in lol).

There's no way any school fills it's class completely in July!!!!
The earliest acceptances are sent out sometime in Oct-Nov!
I interviewed at UCSF on Dec 5th, last year, and by that time they only had ~60% of their class filled, which means the remaining 40% were going to get interviewed/accepted/rejected post-Jan!
But, the rule of thumb is to apply early! The later you apply the more intense the competition becomes, and the slimmer your chances of acceptance!

Good luck👍
