i too have the same question.. do they consider us if we get 97 or 98 in toefl?

You will receive an E-mail from BU asking you to complete the on-line supplemental application and fee. Later on they will notify you of any change in your application status by E-mail.

They consider your whole application package. It doesn't really matter if you have 97-98 on TOEFL. They are not strict on having 100 or above.
Just apply and be positive.

You could find so much of information in " Boston University 2012 Application" topic.
Hope this could be of help to you guys.

I really hope you're not giving false hope to a bunch of people and making them waste money...

It is crystal clear on the BU's requirements on CAAPID Directory:

"Applicants whose native language and language of instruction is not English and who are selected to interview
are required to submit an official TOEFL score directly from ETS to Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine Admissions. The TOEFL institution code is 3081, and the department code for dentistry is 38. Required minimum scores are 100 (iBT) and 600 (paper-based test)."

I suggest that if you have a score below what is asked as "minimum" don't apply unless you get in touch with someone from admissions, and make sure that you CAN apply...

Good luck everyone. :luck:

you could apply now and then retake toefl and update your scores later...

Try getting a 100 + in toefl and apply...it's not that difficult. All the best.

Dear Hope4,

If you look directly at BU website you could find the following criteria:
"Applicants whose first language is not English must record their most recent TOEFL score in the CAAPID online application (the TOEFL score must be no more than two years old). Competitive TOEFL scores for the Advanced Standing DMD Program are:

100 Internet-based TOEFL (iBT)
600 Paper-based TOEFL " http://www.bu.edu/dental/admissions/DMD/app-AS.html

So, it means that iBT=100 is the competitive score, not the minimum. I think the information the school itself provides is more reliable.

And second, In my opinion it worth expending 100$ application fee. You could never know what happens finally. None of us have reliable statistics about the average TOEFL or NBDE scores already enrolled in BU, so when you have a good application package it worths spending 100$!!!

And third, if you call schools directly, sometimes you get some information that is not posted on the websites and you could find that application procedure has a little flexibility. You could also apply and later take another TOEFL and update your score.

Good luck to you and everyone here.

I'm not here to keep score, just to help.... anyway:

FYI info on CAAPID is provided by 'the school itself' (just like the one on their website), therefore applicants need to be really careful on any info. Are you going to risk picking one over the other just because you found them on different websites (both info provided from the same source as I said before)? I wouldn't take any as the right one before I double checked, triple checked if necessary directly from school, I'm all up to it.

I'll have to agree with the "You could never know what happens finally"... But I'm most certainly definition of a "good application package" (easy for you to talk about that with a Part 1 on the high 90's...) varies a really wide range, and as it has been exhaustingly discussed on this forum what might be a good package for one school might not be for another. Who are we to judge? Unless you have inside reliable source from admissions..

It's funny, but I guess we've just said the same thing there. 😀

Good thing everyone can take from this is if you find out discrepancies go straight to the source and find out what they really mean, and if there are minimum scores, or just competitive scores, which still quite make a big difference.

Think positive always, but be sure of schools requirements (even the "hidden" ones, NYU thread...) and you'll be the best one to make a final judgement and decision on your own applications process. 👍

I have been invited by each and every school where I applied so far except for BU! And my Toefl score is 98. It's not that I applied late. I completed my application in April. When I was applying I knew that I might not a get a call from BU as they say 100 is the minimum requirement and I was too busy/lazy to improve my score.
It's really annoying for the admission committee to see candidates who are lazy or not paying attention to thier requirements(I am talking about myself here). If they say it you have to do it.
I know there is always a flexibility in admission process. I know a person who had 24 on speaking section of Toefl but the school requirement was 25. He still got admitted to to the program(not to BU though).
Tufts has some minimum requirement for NBDE 2 as well on thier application page. Mine was less than that. I still got admitted. Sometimes they are flexible but not always.
As I did not get a call from BU, I have learnt that be prepared and follow the admission requirements. You can be try your luck always.
Good Luck!
I am sorry if I did not type properly as I am too sleepy! 🙂

I am not saying that BU did not call me because of my Toefl. There could be some other reason. My GPA is not high(may be this is the reason). Assumptions could be endless! 😀
Overall BU is a score friendly school to me! (my experience) 😀

i disagree with the statement that bu is score friendly . they see the overall package . my gpa is not that great and i was not invited for the interview when i applied in the previous cycle without any experience. but gaining some experience in us , i reapplied with the same scores and i got admitted.
Regarding toefl apply with score less than 100 and try to improve it before deadline . i feel that will a wise decision . all the best

BU does look at the whole package, so if you think that you have that apply.
They don't really care about the scores (that what the adminstrator told us in the interview day) i have less than 100 in the TOEFL and i got accepted in BU after 5 days from my interview.
and i have low GPA and low part1 score, but i don't think that those numbers make me bad dentist 😀
by the way there are some people with 110 (TOEFL) and they don't know how to talk clearly, so what's the point 🙂

Hey congrats on ur acceptance to BU.........can you pls share ur stats and interview experience so that others can get an insight.....

Thanks everybody for your share,I will try to improve my TOEFL score before the deadline, but how should I tell BU that Iam going to improve my score? IS there any section in the supplemental application that I can use to write my notes? or should I call them?

You can update your score in your CAAPID profile and BU will check it at the time of reviewing your application.:luck:

Thanks for your answers, please any body with less than 100 in TOEFL and got interview from BU post your status so that we can decide if we should apply or it is just a waste of money.

Hi,

Just if it helps, my TOEFL is 96 and I got interview call from BU. Also, before you apply you can call up or e-mail to BU, they will let you know what you should do if you have any doubts. I did the same before applying as I also had the same doubt regarding TOEFL. The school said we look on the entire application not on one particular section, and having 100 min in TOEFL is recommendation, but not a necessary requirement.

Good luck👍
