Hey guys,

Just wanted to see if I was on pace for middle/lower tier Allopathic schools. Note: Not opposed to DO schools if need be.

I graduated from the University of Maryland- College Park in December 2009 with a degree in kinesiological sciences with a 3.62 GPA. I was enrolled in the honors program and completed a research thesis which involved a year long experience in a laboratory working with a PHD student (it ultimately was not published). Upon graduation, I received certification as a personal trainer and decided to take a year off to try my hand at my lifelong hobby (screenwriting). Wrote a couple scripts while making a living and ultimately interviewed with UCLA for an MFA in screenwriting (was ultimately accepted into their Professional program but not MFA). Decided to come back to College Park the following year (2011) to take the premed prereq courses.

After a year of taking all the prereq premed courses (Myriad of Bios, Gen Chem 1, Orgo 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, etc) I just have Gen Chem 2 to take this fall along with Cell Bio and I will be done. Naturally, since I am just taking hard premed courses, my overall GPA has dropped to a 3.56. I have not gotten anything below a B in any of these courses, and have averaged around a 3.4-3.5ish per semester upon coming back (Last semester was a 3.58). Taking my undergraduate major into account, I estimate my sciences GPA to be around a 3.4.

I am enrolled in an MCAT course (Exam Krackers) and my goal is to achieve a 30 or higher on the MCAT. My question to you all is, if I do receive such a score, would I be in decent standing when applying to a middle-lower tier MD school? In my mind, I have made the lifelong commitment to medicine so I would definitely be open to applying to DO schools if need be. Any help would be much appreciated!

Also interested.

Strangely enough, I also have a (secret) love for screenwriting, among other things, and it's cool to see other premeds passionate about creative things as well. Good luck to you.

Wow, what are the odds! Good luck to you as well!

I feel you're competitive for low-mid tier MD schools (assuming MCAT > 30) and with MCAT > 24 are competitive at all DO schools.
