My father and I are planning a one-week cycling trip out west this summer.

My goal is to apply as close to June 1st as possible (I plan on having everything ready to go by then). I know that in addition to a timely AMCAS submittal, a quick turnaround on secondaries is also vital to a successful application. While I'm sure that a one week vacation won't hijack anything, is there a certain time in July/August that would be "best" for my vacation.

Yes, I'm most definitely being neurotic, but there's no point in taking chances.

Thank you.

There are threads that list people, the day that they applied, the day they were verified, and the day that there primary was released to schools. You could then take that information to the school specific threads and find out when the schools that you are interested in applying to will send out secondary info.

I couldn't find the AMCAS thread, but the DO thread is similar.

Here is my advice. Go on the bike trip. Taking a week off from pre-med activities of checking your email every 10 minutes. I can't think of a school that requires secondaries to be turned in a week later. Most give at least a month.

If you pre-write some of the essays, then you should be able to turn them in when you get back from having fun!

I would say mid-August. I received most of my secondaries in July and tried to submit them as soon as possible after I received them. Of course this depends on when you submit your primary and when you're verified.
Good luck and have fun on your trip!

I'm going on the trip, no doubts there. Thanks for the advice.

Perfect, this is what I was thinking as well. I appreciate the input.

Word of advice... DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Have you seen our "Panic Thread" and "where my ma late applicants at" thread?

You will regret sending them in late!

I did not regret sending them in late. In fact, the first couple secondaries I submitted were weaker (not bad, just uncompelling) and did not get me interviews, while the last couple, which drew on the strongest essays I had crafted over two months, got me acceptances.
