I've read on the waitlist movement thread that Tufts sends out e-mails to those taken off the wiatlist and offer acceptances. Is this true? or is notification via regular mail. I'm currently waitlisted and Tufts is my top choice. Any suggestions of what I should do to show interest besides sending a letter of intent? Good luck to all waitlisters!

since my interview at tufts weeks ago, i heard nothing until may 13, when an email arrived. the email congratulated me, stating that an acceptance letter had been sent to me on may 8th! the formal acceptance arrived in a large white envelope on may 17, the day before i graduated and left boston! my reply, and my deposit, had to be received by friday, may 23, or i would lose my place in the class.

this is a critical time in the waitlist movement at all schools. of course, you should update them with final grades, awards, activities, and anything else that might enhance your appeal as an applicant.

as you know, schools like tufts are concerned with their ranking, which is based in part on the competitiveness of the schools. since the ratio of applicants to accepted students is a large factor in determining competitiveness, this ratio is improved when they admit a student who is bound by a letter of intent to attend. therefore, if you are truly certain that tufts is your first choice, definitely send them a letter telling them so. let them know that if admitted, you will withdraw your applications from all other medical schools, and consider this a binding agreement.

good luck - i hope to see you at tufts this fall!
