Question:

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
incidence in MEN: #1 = prostate, #2 = lung
incidence in WOMEN: #1 = breast, #2 = lung
OVERALL: Lung = most common AND biggest killer

actually the incidence is highest of Prostate 230K, then Breast 217K, Lung 173K. This is according to Cancer Journal of clinicians 2004.

As far as mortality Lung is #1.

so.... 😡 i said skin...thus the answer has to be skin...that journal is wrong!!!!!!!!! 😡 😡

i dont know why skin cancer pops to my head whenever that question comes up 😕 😕

I always think skin too...I do know that it's sex determined first and then Lung and GI...Lung kills most in both sexes...I still wonder why I think skin is the most common cancer 😕

This is tricky... All of the review books say prostate for men, and breast for women... However, the CDC says otherwise:

"Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. The three major types of skin cancer are the highly curable basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas and the more serious malignant melanoma. The American Cancer Society estimates that during 2003, about 1 million new cases of basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma and about 54,200 new cases of malignant melanoma will be diagnosed. It is also expected that skin cancer will claim the lives of approximately 9,800 Americans."

This is directly from the CDC website: http://www.cdc.gov/cancer/nscpep/skin.htm

I wonder what answer the testmakers are looking for??? 😕

if your question asks cancer for a specific sex, pick prostate or breast. if it just says whats the most common cancer, its skin baby 😎

ok but did anyone notice that the question didnt mention MC cancer where geographically, while the CDC stat is about cancer in the US?
would this change the answer a bit?
