What is the difference between “delivering a prescription” and “dispensing a prescription”. I’m confused cause when doing central filling a prescription that is dispensed it can be returned to the pharmacy but not the delivered one.

Simple answer - once it has left the pharmacy, Rx can not be returned to stock (adulterated, quality/identity/strength/etc. is not what it claims to be say if patient tampers with med/stores in inclimate conditions/etc.)

The assumption is that a "dispense" prescription is kept in house, or within a chain of licensed people who would properly store it. A "delivered" prescription is delivered to a layperson, and there is on control of the storage of the prescription throughout the delivery process or after the layperson received it.

But as Sine Cura said, the terminology definition is going to depend on your state's practice act.

CFR - Code of Federal Regulations Title 21
Dispense to patients means THE ACT of delivering a prescription drug product to a patient or an agent of the patient either:
(1) By a licensed practitioner or an agent of a licensed practitioner, either directly or indirectly, for self-administration by the patient, or the patient's agent, or outside the licensed practitioner's direct supervision; or (2) By an authorized dispenser or an agent of an authorized dispenser under a lawful prescription of a licensed practitioner.

"Delivering a prescription" means the prescription left the hands of (1) or (2) to be sent to the appropriate destination.
