Hi everyone

I applied this year for the first time and did not get accepted. I knew after I got my august mcat score that I wouldn't, but i already sent the apps off. Well anyway, i have a six year old son and I did not take any classes or do any thing this semester but study for the mcat that I just took this past sat. My concern is that I haven't done anything since my last app. except hopefully pull up my mcat score. How do I explain this? Do you think that it looks bad? There was just no way that I could volunteer, work full-time, go to school and study for the mcat without getting the same results from august. Any suggestions how to improve my app?

Well, if you work full time, then you should explain that in your PS. If your MCAT score improves, then I think schools will understand that you have a son and have to work instead of volunteering. Is your job related to medicine/working with people in some way? If it is, you can try and write about what you've learned at work in the past year. Also, if you wanna strengthen your app and don't wanna wait an extra year, start volunteering right now. Do something like work in the ER once a week or whatever you like, that way when you start getting secondaries in August, you'll have something additional to write about. Plus you can talk about new experiences at your interviews. Good luck!
