I am currently between residencies right now. I have completed a surgical internship. Would it be possible for me to join the military (preferably navy or airforce) and work as a GMO and apply to residency programs through the military. I am trying for rads. Thanks!!

If you want to join the Navy, they will be salivating all over you 😛 However, if you join us, expect to deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan (with the Marines or Navy). If you do join, I would recommend signing up for only 3 year active duty orders and contingent on going to flight surgery or dive school. In general, flight surgeons and dive docs have more fun.

Once you join and become Navy active duty, then you will have a real chance of matching with Navy radiology. FYI: The Navy is projected to have 18 Radiology residency slots this year (8 in San Diego, 5 in Norfolk, and 5 in Bethesda). Last year, approximately 40 people applied.
