For doing any type of post-bac is it alright to take math courses at a local community college to raise the sci gpa or would it be better to take them at a University? 😉

Most schools are OK with community college classes provided you take your science requirements (i.e. the BCPs w/ labs) at a four-year college. At the same time, though, they do understand that community classes are generally easier and when looking through your transcript, they will place less weight on them. I think the best way to go would be to take a bio, chem, or physics class at a four-year college, provided you can dish out the time and money. Otherwise, something like a physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, or histology course at community would be nice, provided you do real well. Hope this helps.
thanks Pow, but what about math classes like statistics, calculus etc at a community college over a 4 yr univ. I wouldnt think they would put less weight on them but then again im not the admissions committee. 😳
Again, there's just the general acceptance of the idea that community college is easier than almost any four-year college. So if you do want to go the route of taking those at community, keep in mind that you should do a damn good job, cause an A at community means you could've gotten an A at a four-year college but a B at community means you probably would've gotten a C at a four-year.
Also, keep in mind that most schools place more weight on the BCP than the "science" GPA. It's rare that dental students are asked to do integrals, but you damn well better know the difference between a foot and a molar.
Course work is often times more important than the number the committee sees, so if you have to take a class at community, I'd go for one of those upper-level bio or chem courses.
That said, if your choice is between taking a math course at community or taking nothing, take the class at community. Despite the fact that it's not your best option, it can only help.
