Question:
Long story: I F**ked up my freshman and sophomore year, so my gpa is crap. My OAT TS:370 AA:350 (I studied for like a week). I'm thinking about re-taking the classes I got C's in. So my question is, is that ok? Will they accept that? I mean I graduated from UC Berkeley (I am not boosting or putting anyone or any school down), so how would it look if i took the classes again at cc? thanx ahead for your input.

when you say your gpa is "crap", it is difficult me to guess what it is - is a 3.0 "crap"? is a 1.0 "crap"? your oat is good, well done. most (if not all) optometry schools require you to AT LEAST get a C in each prerequisite class, so it would probably be a good idea to retake ones you got a C and below in at a cc. try to get A's, if this is not already obvious. and if you are wondering, YES, you do have a chance at getting in. good luck.

crap meaning 2.7. As for the prerequisites, most are either Bs or As, a few Cs, My gpa is low because of some humanities classes that I didn't bother to take the final for.

hi Cal-OD... oh boy how i feel ya! I'm actually a senior at Cal.. and my GPA sucks and my OATs are a lil lower/similiar to urs.. but i think u def have a chance depending on what school u apply to.. if u wanna go to Cal.. maybe not b/c i know that u have to have a minimum 3.0 to apply but u can always go talk with the dean since they love cal kids anyways.. umm i got interviews with all the schools thus far i've applied to.. ICO, PCO, SCCO, SUNY, got into one and waiting to hear back from the others. So yea, i suggest u go ahead and apply b/c i think ur OATs somewhat compensate.. do u have a lot of experience in the field? cause that realllly helps too. gooo bears :]

Most schools (including UCBSO, where you don't want to go) only look at your prerequisite course GPA, so the humanities courses you f---ed up wouldn't even count. Admissions people also look at the trend in your GPA. Doing terribly at the beginning of undergrad and much better toward the end looks better than the opposite. I don't see any point in retaking a bunch of humanities courses, or any course that you at least passed at one point. You should probably talk to the admissions people at the schools you want to go to and see what they say. BTW, UCBSO has been known to accept people with less than a 3.0.

You got an interview at SCCO and SUNY?, what is your gpa?, if you don't mind me asking. I just want to get into a school, I don't care which. I have worked for almost a 1 1/2 year at a private practice. I'm a little sick of the paper, but I want to be an optometrist. At Cal, I finished my IB degree and took MCB 102 & 130. Oh and I hate Cal, and I don't want to get back there.
