Do dental schools care about what college you go as an undergraduate? As far as reputation? I'm talking about public, not private schools. i wanted to go to Auburn University in Alabama but my parents say that it's best to go to a college near my home but I don't know. What I need to look for in finding the right college?

Might I ask why your parents think it is better to go to college closer to home? You from a backwoods southern part of Alabama or something?

For a general answer to your question, provided that the school is a reasonably respected 4 year university it will not matter much. Ivy league school GPA's may get curved due to how hard they are, but other than that the difference is slim to none. Stay out of the community colleges and you are ok.

You can matriculate to dental school from any college that offers biology/chemistry/physics classes. I suggest you pick the college that is best for you!

Auburn's tight. Go to Auburn. Ignore what your parents say. There'll be lots of tailgating and loads of fun. Better names do matter some in the admissions process, but there are other things to consider too, like your college experience.

I'd say go to Auburn (my name may indicate my bias). I talked to an adcom once that said the name of the school matters some. He said there are some schools that he doesn't even really look at the apps because students from those schools routinly send in apps with gpas above 3.8 but DAT scores at about 16-17. I'd assume that unless you went to a crappy school like that it wouldn't matter all that much, but the tiger walk on gameday sounds way more exciting than a school closer to home!!!
