Ok I have a dilemma and I was hoping for your input. Here is my situation:

I will be taking classes this summer to boost my gpa but will also be applying to dental school for 2009 matriculation. Is it better to apply early (with a 3.05) and do the academic update which I hear is in November-ish (?) or apply at the end of summer classes at the start of August (with a ~3.15-3.20)? I was just thinking about it and didn't know which way to go.

Could anyone also give me feedback on the academic update and why it is so late in the fall rather than in August at the end of summer classes and also any information on the academic update in general would be nice.

Thanks 😀

I agree if you MUST apply this coming cycle, apply early and when you finish the summer courses, send an update to the schools you applied to.

What is your science GPA? Schools look at your transcript to see if you take easy classes to boost your GPA. The important thing is that you get good grades in the right areas. If you have As in bowling or some writing classes, but Cs or Ds in science classes, you most likely won't even get an interview. If I were you, I might take another year to boost my GPA, study really hard and get a great DAT score, shadow and then apply for 2010. That's just my advice though, good luck!

i agree with Regmata and SugarNaCl. applying early > few summer/spring classes

when you submit in may your spring grades probably wont be out if you are on quarter system. at least mine wasnt out until june and it was too late.
