I am the first one in my entire family to graduate college. I am not underpriviledged, but I've heard med schools still like this. Where exactly would this be reflected in my application? Do I have to mention it somewhere in my personal statement? Should I bring it up at my committee interview to my advisor?

If you want med schools to know about it, I'd put it in your personal statement. But it's gotta tie in with your point, of course. Mentioning it to your advisor may get it into your letter, but you can't know. Some schools' secondaries have questions that you could incorporate this into, as well. It's really all up to you.

Thanks! I will probably try to work it in somehow to my PS.

Yeah, I am in the same boat as you are and I included it into my PS. But do not bank on it too much because schools look at the overall package so you will have to let them know/feel what 'being 1st to go to college' means to you/family.😀

I have a lot of other things I want to discuss in my personal statement so it definitely would not be a main theme. I guess I could just work it in there somehow.

They do ask this information on the AMCAS application. AMCAS asks each of your parent's highest level of education attained. I realize this doesn't extend into your whole family, but they can start to get the idea there. If you really think being the first in your family to attend college helped propel you towards medicine, then work it into your PS, but like others said and as you have addressed, don't make it a main theme.
