which would you choose for post-baccalaureate pre-medical course work? (for students with no science background)Which is the more prestigious?

Columbia, UPenn, or NYU?

don't pick it on prestige. pick where you want to go to med school. If you want to go to upenn, go there, etc etc...

if you don't know where you want to go yet and you want to keep your options open, pick the program that you think you'd rock the best at, because frankly better grades with more EC's look way better than meh grades at a prestigious school...

I've seen far more applicaitons from the Columbia post-bac program than from the other two. The advisor's letter of recommendation is very helpful and tends to go into great detail about your motivation for medicine as well as your experiences there at Columbia. They also seem to have a regular pipeline to St. Luke's for volunteering and connections to reserach labs.

I've heard it is easy to get in and hard to stay in so keep that in mind.

i have first hand knowledge of quite a few people doing columbia's program and from what ive seen and heard, LizzyM is right. the program is supposed to be a good one but that its not easy to get a 4.0.. then again a friend of mine achieved a 4.02 so you never know..

As I applied to two of those, I'm pretty sure Upenn wants people that have already had experience in the health care industry (past professional, clinical research) whereas Columbia doesn't care and thus has a lot of students right out of Ugrad that realized later on that Medicine was what they wanted to go in to.

Hey. I just finished the UPenn post-bacc program this past May. (I had previously taken many of my pre-reqs, so we're not quite in the same boat)

Honestly, all three are good schools and I'm sure they all have numerous opportunities to get involved in the community and to do research or pursue any other hobby you desire.

Quite frankly, I'd go with the cheapest, which is probably UPenn because Philly is such a cheap city. Be forewarned - Philly is also a scummy city, unsafe, and the city will try to squeeze every last penny out of you if you drive. I'm from Jersey and spend half of my time in NY and it is, all around, a far more expensive city.

Oh, and UPenn has two programs: Pre-Health (for those without experience or coursework) and Special Sciences (for those with previous coursework) and the two programs overlap.
