Hello

I am new in this forum. I am newly graduated pharmacist. I got one good oppertunity in independent pharmacy. But that pharmacy is totally new and owner of the pharmacist wants that I should sign form of supervisor pharmacist. I know its big responsibilty and also after 5 months I will be on maternity leave. In that scenario, what should I do? Should I accept that offer in this bad market or just refuse to sign form. Aftr a 3 months search, I found this good offer. But now I am confused. Please help me to solve this.

Thanks in advance
Regards

There are some things you need to find out if you don't already know the answer.

Does the pharmacy already have it's medicaid and medicare numbers? This usually takes at least 9 months. I am kind of curious how a brand new independent can even afford to hire a pharmacist. Usually in these scenarios you see the owner working as the pharmacist.

I work for a small independent and I am also a recent graduate. While I think going the independent route is an excellent choice, I work for an already successful and established independent. My goals are to own my own pharmacy within the next five years, so naturally this is the venue in which I should be working. However, if you are not interested in future ownership, then you may want to consider something a little more stable, especially given your upcoming motherhood.

It would be a good idea to find out your total benefits package if you haven't already done so. Does the owner also own other pharmacies?

Normally when you open a new store from the ground up, as an owner and pharmacist you usually don't pull a substantial salary for at least 3 years and that is if the business does really well.

Is the pharmacy in a small town, that can sustain and independent? What is his business model in terms of % growth and is it reasonable. Make sure you look at everythign very well and don't be afraid to ask questions and get what you need in terms of benefits and salary. Good Luck on your career and pregnancy.
