If I decide to go to school in the midwest or east coast is it a lot harder to get into residency programs or even work back on the west coast. Does it hurt my chances? I would love to go to some of the schools on the east coast or midwest to get the experience of living somewhere different but really hope to end up on the west. That's where I have grown up and where all my family is. Let me know thanks!

It should not matter. All the 9 podiatry schools are good academic and clinical/surgical wise. You should have a very high chance of getting matched to any residency program you apply to as long as you have good grades and evaluations in podiatry school, you are competent in your knowledge and skills during your rotations in 3rd and 4th year, and the attendings and residents get along with you at the podiatric externships you attended in 4th year, and of course pass the APMLE boards at the first take.

The only thing you have to realize is that podiatry in America has this "West" coast vs "East" coast school of thought in approaching foot and ankle. You will know more when you are a podiatry student about this. But despite this east coast/west coast thing, work hard and show passion for podiatry and you will do very well anywhere you end up practicing.

The things that come out of your mouth during 4th year rotations will have a much bigger impact than the school you went to.
