I studied at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and I am planning to apply for US schools but I don't how to transfer semester hours (common in US schools) to credits at my schools (UBC). I have taken the following chemistry courses at UBC and I don't know if they fulfill the 6 semester hours of organic chemistry (full year with lab) as required by Case Western University:

-CHEM 121
-CHEM 123
-CHEM 205
-CHEM 233 - 3 credits
-CHEM 235 - 1 credit

Thanks!

It might help if you wrote down the name of the courses.

Your Chem 121 and 123 appears to be your one year of general chemistry, albeit, without the labs. It is not clear what Chem 205 would be since in the normal course sequence p. chem is taken after organic. Where exactly is your second semester of organic to meet the two semesters or organic requirement?

First year: CHEM 121 taken in first term & CHEM 123 taken in second term. Throughout the year, there's a lab associated with these 2 courses.

Second year: CHEM 233 organic chemistry lecture taken in first term & CHEM 235 organic chem lab taken in second year. A full year of organic chemistry except the lab is separated from the lecture component.

Second year: CHEM 205 physical chemistry taken in first term.

Does this sound like I am meeting the pre-req?

Thanks!

3 plus 1 comes a little short of 6.

The fact that my school uses 'credits' NOT semester hours (most US schools) make it very confusing. The chem. courses that I listed above are what all life science students are required to take. I really hope that I am meeting the pre-req. Not sure who to ask though.

Ask the US school you are applying to what credits will transfer as what. 😉 Some may not even transfer at all and some may transfer, but be equal to something else, or only part of something or...transferring is a pain. lol Good luck I hope all goes well!!!!
