Hi, I'm actually a junior in high school, and my parents recently have gotten really pissed at me for getting 3 Bs. I know it's not that big of a deal because I'm taking hard classes (I took AP Chem, precalc, and physics as a sophomore), but they still doubt that I can do it. They cite reasons such as the increase of competition and how most people who choose to study this kind of profession are the best, and there is no room for Bs. Is this true? Should I abandon my goal?

Also, are there any jobs in dentistry where I can expect to make around 250k+ if I'm above average?

3 B's, especially in high school, isn't worth getting worked up over. Keep your grades up overall and you'll be fine.

As for the money, if you end up as any sort of dentist, you'll do fine. Take care of your patients, and they'll take care of the mortgage.

I'm still trying to figure out what "Implants and OMFS" has to do with this.

no ur only half right aphistis.....I was asking whether I could still be a OMFS with my grades...but yeah I worded it partially so people would look 😛

HONESTLY you'll find out when you're in college.

the best advice i could give you now is the same i gave my little bro.. try to get the best grades and sat score so you can get a scholarship and so you can minimize your debt because as you'll find out later, debt is a huge issue in dentistry. No, you won't be filthy rich.

1) Any of them can earn that much if you're above average. Some of them will pay that much if you're below average.

2) Your parents seriously need to get a grip.

If you're really looking to get to OMFS, then you need to rock dental school. To get to dental school, you gotta rock undergraduate. Given your high school grades, you should be able to get into undergraduate.

NOW, while you're in undergraduate (given the recent trends), you should try to keep B's to a minimum. MINIMUM DOES NOT EQUAL NON-EXISTANT. You can afford B's. What does a 3.8 GPA mean? That there was a B or a few in there. BTW, I don't know of any specialties that look at your high school grades. You've got a long way to go, buddy. I think you should re-address this question in 4 years.

23 of the 28 OMS programs that I have applied to requested my high school and junior high transcripts. If you got less than an A- in any class you're out of luck. Doesn't matter that it was PE and you just weren't that good at kickball.

Tell your parents that since you got three Bs, any medical profession is out of the question. Therefore you should do what you feel like doing career wise. DP
