I've been looking through the AMCAS site, and I've come across some questions regarding LORs. I will be asking someone at a place i did clinical research at to write me a letter soon but i won't be applying for a few years. i still haven't taken my mcat and i am not close to ready to apply.

1. on the aamc site, it says that the author has to write my ID.

"Letter authors must include your AAMC ID and AMCAS Letter ID found on your Letter Request Form when sending letters, regardless of how they are submitting the letter."

How can this be done when I do not have an application yet?

2. Also, it says that my letters are only valid before a year. Does this mean getting a letter now is pointless?
"How long are my letters valid?
AMCAS will retain and deliver letters only within a single application year."

It sounds like you are not applying right now. AMCAS's letter service is for current applicants only.

If you'd like to get a LOR from the professor now and store it for later, you'll need to see if your premed office has a letter service (some offices will store them and then upload them through a service like VirtualEvals).

If your premed/prehealth office doesn't do this, then you'll need to buy a subscription to Interfolio. Google it and you can read all about it.
