I have some questions about lors. Are letters from private outpatient doctors undesirable? Are letters from doctors who work in hospitals without residents the same as letters from private practice doctors or are they considered better? Also is it a bad idea to obtain a letter from a doctor who was a chief residenr when i was in my third year but is now a brand attending? Also, when is tge latest that is ok to get lor in? Nov?

This depends on the specialty and academic/community nature of your targeted programs.

I would try to have all letters in by the end of September if possible. If one letter comes in October or November that's probably ok. Again, this depends on specialty as some are known to interview early, while others wait longer.

I suppose it depends on what you are applying for, but I was told to get letters from the chief of the department and any academic big wigs (... by the residency director of the department). You should really be talking to your residency director for department you are interested in; they tend to have the best insight on matters such as these.
