I did a pretty thorough search, and didn't find anything answering this.
I have almost no knowledge of medical school, so any answers are appreciated.

1. Is there any housing provided on most campuses for medical students?

2. How do you find money to live on, during medical school? (Other than parents)

3. Is it possible to fail out of medical school?

4. How hard would it be for a (pre-med) dual major bio-eng major with a 3.8 GPA, 34 MCAT to attend a good medical school, that isn't entirely hellbent on research?

5. Is Georgia a good state, for medical schools?

6. What are some good resources, to learn about medical school?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

No.

For most: loans

3. Is it possible to fail out of medical school?
Yes.

Those are competitive stats for the majority of schools. You of course need the ECs to go with it though.

As far as bigger name schools there's Emory. I don't know about the others (I'm from the north so not too familiar with Georgia).

6. What are some good resources, to learn about medical school?
SDN, specific school's websites and the MSAR (book with schools average numbers ect).

DrYoda,
Thank you for the quick response.

I thought the loans only paid for the medical school tuition?

Do you just take out separate loans to cover living expenses?

1. actually it depends. Some schools offer housing, others don't offer actual housings, others still you can live with the medical fraternity (UTMemphis). So it depends, ask during your interviews.

2. A majority of people live off loans or parents or money they saved up working beforehand but some do work. It's highly inadvisable to do so because work = time and you don't have a lot of time in med school but it's not impossible.

3. Yes, you can fail out of med school but you are usually given A LOT of opportunities to NOT fail out. You must either be 1. ******ed or 2. self sabotaging to fail out.

4. You are competitive to get into medical school with those stats.

5. Georgia's a decent state with several schools especially emory.

6. Each school is different so look up on school specific threads on SDN and if you know kids that go to those schools it'd be even better still.

Thank you for the advice, and answers, Ischemic!

Didn't read others' responses so some may be repeats:
1. Very few schools I know of that do.
2. Loans which are part of your fin aid package
3. It is possible but from what I hear you have to screw up royally
4. You can definitely do that provided that you have the usual ECs (shadowing, clinical experience, leadership positions) and maybe something to make you stand out
5. I am a Georgian and was really disheartened by my limited choices. (but as the process wore on I realized that every state has limitations in selection of schools in some way or another...so I stopped my whining). There are Emory, MCG, Morehouse and Mercer MD schools here. I know there are a couple of DO ones but I don't know much about them. I think you can get into the last 3 fairly easily with your current stats but probably need to work on your MCAT score for Emory.
6. MSAR, SDN, schools' websites, premed upperclassmen 🙂
Good Luck

OP, some med schools that are located in very expensive cities do provide low cost housing for med students. For example, Cornell and Columbia are located in New York City and provide student housing to offset the expense of NYC. As I recall, Harvard offers med student housing, and perhaps Yale does as well.
